Club Penguin Rewritten: Public HTML5 Beta Test Launched (#CPR2020)
For a while now, the Club Penguin Rewritten team have been slowly revealing details about the upcoming HTML5 public beta test. This has now been officially released in a blog post, but I just wanted to give you a run down of what’s going on!
In case you’re unaware, the team are currently migrating the game to a more modern technology. There’s two primary reasons for this:
- In December, Flash (the current technology used) will begin to be retired by browsers. It’s also significantly outdated as it is.
- HTML5 (the more modern technology) will provide the team with more options. This includes mobile support, but they have also confirmed that features such as igloos improvements will be made for the more modern technology. Read more.
Without further ado, here’s how you can test it! You can sign in at the following link on any device, including mobile: https://play.cprewritten.net/2020/
This is really just a test, so a lot of things such as sitting and emotes don’t work yet, and it may feel a bit odd. You can also currently access the following rooms:
- Outdoor: Town, Dock, Snow Forts, Plaza
- Indoor: Coffee Shop, Dance Club, Gift Shop
By testing, you’ll receive an exclusive background! It’ll be added to your inventory automatically as long as you’re not logged in on both the HTML5 version and the Flash version at the same time.
Of course, a lot is being updated and there’s still a while to go! However, it’s pretty amazing to see the rapid progress which the team has made, and the game does play relatively well. It’s also really cool to be able to play on mobile devices!

Is everything on our old cpr account going to transfer over to the HTML5 version of the game. Like stamps, clothing items and igloo items?

My guess is that since the game works on mobile once the get it finished they will make some sort of app which will take you to the website but that is just me

It’s possible, but the chance of an app for a private server being approved on either the App Store or the Google Play Store seems very unlikely, and it probably would be pretty pointless anyway.

I got the free background by testing, but honestly I don’t think we will get the same club penguin feel again. It looked so different in graphics, interface and the features were very different. So that’s why I don’t want flash to end.

I understand why you feel that way, but I suspect there’s a lot of improvements to come, and definitely so in regards to features! Flash being retired is unfortunately out of Club Penguin Rewritten’s control.

It’s not a problem at all, I didn’t think too much of it either and I think it’d be allowed on CPR, but perhaps others are sensitive to it too.
