CP Rewritten: Operation Swarm Cancelled
I can imagine that this post will be disappointing for many to read, especially after all the excitement which has been built up over the last month: Operation Swarm has been cancelled, and will not be happening.
The team released this statement a few moments ago.
We’ve decided to cancel Operation: Swarm due to it being delayed so much that it would now conflict with the upcoming Holiday Party. I know this will be upsetting for a lot of people, and I’m really sorry that I have again let the community down by falling behind of schedule. You all deserve better. We’ll be making some changes and work harder to ensure this pattern does not continue in to the next year. Later today, the island will return to normal and the December Penguin Style will be released along with some construction for the Holiday Party. Thank you for reading.

The transition to a new technology (HTML5) at the end of this year is likely why the party has been cancelled completely rather than just delayed. I appreciate fully that by sharing this news, I’ll be spreading heavy disappointment, and I understand any frustration which may be felt. I can only share what’s been revealed, and unfortunately, that news is the party has been cancelled. The compensation of the Treasure Book code and coins will still be released.

The assets were completed in Flash – it doesn’t matter that they were all complete because they’d have to be completely redone.

My understanding – and I’ll need to get this confirmed – is there’s an ambition to try and convert it all to HTML5, and potentially run it in the future. But the chance of this actually happening is probably quite low

Could Operation Swarm be made with HTML5? Even though that would mean completely remaking the code as you can’t use Flash code with HTML5. Either way I really hope we see some EPF related content next year.

Darn I’d rather have Operation Swarm than the Holiday Party since it’s brand new content. I hope they release it next year tho. That’s a shame but after the weeks of delays I expected this. Hope the team can finally get a break over the holidays for all the hard work they’ve put into cpr. Oh well my penguin will have to get mind controlled by Herbert another time. I would love to see what the mind control looks like so I can draw some fan art.

How do you know it won’t be happening? In the statement it’s written that “This isn’t the ping you have all been waiting for and unfortunately that ping isn’t going to come this year“.

It’s possible, but extremely unlikely; Operation Swarm was developed with something that’ll be retired by the end of the year.

oh… this is sad. I was really hoping for it to come out. Now they cancelled. But something off topic, I got banned forever xD. My account was ThazPika. And I made some good progress on it. I had all Fair 2020 items. I still have a alt. I’m feel like I’m starting to lose a bit of faith. I understand that the team is very small.

By January, Club Penguin Rewritten will be using HTML5. This is a different technology to Flash, which the party was created in; the two aren’t compatible.

Do you think it’s possible that some of the items that were supposed to return for Operation Swarm could potentially be released in the clothing catalog along with the holiday stuff? (the ski patrol outfit and the herbert and klutzy costumes) If anything, I hope they’ll consider at least giving us access to those things since the party was cancelled!

I expected this to be the case, seems like the CPR team needs better time management so that events aren’t getting canned and delayed all the time. I think most would agree that we’d like to ensure the staff aren’t overworked because of community pressure, but instead just chill and focus on the core game first and foremost.

They were definitely taking a lot on this month, but in fairness, it was split quite well between different people, and all the assets for Operation Swarm had been completed!

this really is sad news, but in every sad news there’s something good. This time too! I was able to unlock the Penguin Band hoodie and the Blue Tuxedo from the treasure book code! 🙂
