Club Penguin’s Real Puffle Skateboards
For Mountains Monday this week, it’s time to feature something related to Club Penguin in real-life! Often, that can feature a piece of merchandise, but most products except membership cards were retired by 2013.
However, in 2014, the Club Penguin team attempted to restart merchandise production as part of a partnership with an online store. The range of products included phone cases, hoodies, and also skateboards! These weren’t sold for long, and it was widely perceived as a failure due to the extremely high prices which the products sold at. That being said, some of the designs were visually impressive!
The skateboard featuring the rainbow puffle even made it in-game too as part of the School & Skate event in 2014, which also introduced the skatepark to Club Penguin. I remember finding it a little peculiar to see the emphasis of skateboards added to Club Penguin at the time, but it was probably perceived as a trend that could’ve been profitable.
As part of that, the Club Penguin team also revealed a “digital short” featuring the skateboard. In reality, it was really just an advertisement, but it was rare for a video similar to this to be released.
The expensive pricing of these skateboards largely resulted in them being forgotten despite the emphasis that the Club Penguin team tried placing on them, but I thought they’d be fun to explore in a Mountains Monday post, so I hope that you enjoyed reading!

I like they grey puffle one, and i would like the rainbow one a lot more if they had ditched the cloud, and gone more so for a silhouette of the puffle

I get that pricing was a huge issue, but it might have been better not to focus solely on puffles. Think of all the different themes CP could have explored (mascots, penguins skateboarding, April Fools’, Halloween, etc.). But hindsight is 20/20. No other game matches the complexity yet simplicity of CP. No game will ever replace it.

That’s true! I suppose that the merchandise re-launch in 2014 was always going to be a challenge, partly due to pricing, but also other factors such as how it was online only and limited to specific regions.

Hey Torres, I just want to clarify something; wasn’t the dj3k a bit different in classic club penguin? I remember there being a lot of buttons each producing different sounds. I can be wrong but it just seems like such a familiar memory. Can you tell me? Thanks! 😀
