Club Penguin Rewritten Retires its Flash Version
Flash Player has been the technology which Club Penguin Rewritten has relied on since it began, however as the year concludes, it’s going to be retired by browsers. As a result, the version of the game which we’re most familiar with has now closed.
I must assure you: this isn’t the end of Club Penguin Rewritten! Although it won’t be possible to play the game for a bit, the data of every single account is being transferred to the new HTML5 client. This is more modern technology, and it’ll be launched and available to play soon.
When it does launch, some aspects will initially be missing, mainly many mini-games and puffles. It’s a priority of the team to re-add them as quickly as possible, but this may take a while.

CP Rewritten: Flash Version to Close in Hours
From tonight, Club Penguin Rewritten will be retiring its Flash version of the game which we’ve grown familiar with over the last few years. This will occur at 8pm GMT, and that’s the final time which you have to do anything with the current Flash version, from collecting the final items at the Holiday Party to taking any last screenshots.
As a reminder, this is not the end of Club Penguin Rewritten; the game will be transitioning to a new technology, HTML5, but this will take some time to achieve. No data (eg. items/friends/stamps) is going to be lost from your account, but initially, there’ll be substantially less content: it seems like there’ll be around eight mini-games at launch, for example, and that puffles will be missing. It’s a priority of the team to implement, at the earliest possible stage, all missing games, such as Pizzatron 3000, Cart Surfer and Card-Jitsu.
So, a big day for the future of the game, and I just wanted to make you aware of the precise date! Please remember to take any final screenshots on the Flash version.

CP Rewritten: List of Things to Expect at HTML5 Launch
The transition to HTML5 will begin at the end of this month on Club Penguin Rewritten! Earlier today, the team released a comprehensive list of the main things we can expect at launch.
- Around 8 mini-games
- Igloo decorating
- Catalogs
- Parties
A sneak peek was also released of igloo decorating on HTML5! Probably the most impressive thing about it is how smoothly it all runs, and the HTML5 version should be notably faster.
It’s quite clear that a lot will also be missing, but don’t worry! It’ll all be added in over time: the team have made clear that every mini-game will be implemented at “some point”.
The other noticeable thing missing from that list are the changes to Puffle Care, which were supposed to come with HTML5. The team have clarified that will become a priority after the initial bug fixes.
Puffles will be still in development and we hope to shift our focus on them after a few bug fixes, etc.
-stu, Club Penguin Rewritten administratorLastly, no more non-urgent bug fixes will be implemented to the Flash version given that it will be retired within a few days.

CP Rewritten: Downtime “For Several Days” Next Week
As you may be aware by now, the technology which Club Penguin Rewritten is currently reliant on (Flash) will be retired by browsers at the end of this year. In order to ensure that the game continue, the team have been working on a HTML5 version, which is a more modern technology that will be supported long into the future, and you can learn more about it here!
Part of the transition between the two different types of technology will require some downtime at the end of the year. In other words: from December 31st, the game will be down for “several days”.
There are only 7 days left of the Adobe Flash version of Club Penguin Rewritten, and the game will be down for several days starting on [December] 31st, which is when we will complete our move to HTML5.
-Thorn, Club Penguin Rewritten administratorThis is important if you enjoy Club Penguin Rewritten, so please be aware that there is only one week left to enjoy the current “version” of the game before it’s retired.

CP Rewritten: Obtaining the Family Photo Background
Earlier in the month, it was revealed that there’d be a new background featuring all the main mascots! That has now been released, and it’s called the Family Photo. Here’s how to obtain it:
- Open the newspaper (icon at the top left of your screen)
- Flick to the first page, which is page A2
- Click the photo of all the mascots together
- Press “Yes” when the dialog appears
- It will be added to your inventory!
It’s definitely a really lovely background featuring all of the characters together, and something you won’t want to miss! Thank you very much for reading!

CP Rewritten: Springy Santa Hat Guide
Earlier in the week, the Springy Santa Hat was introduced to Club Penguin Rewritten, however I forgot to share a guide about how to obtain it! I’d like to thank LuluTheseLemons for reminding me, and I just wanted to share the guide in case people are looking for it!
Unlike other items, you need to be sent this one:
- Have a penguin send you the purple “Happy Holidays!” postcard
- Open to your mailbox and click the postcard
- Click “Get item!”
I’ll be happy to send out plenty of these postcards at today’s meet-up if you wish for one! However, there should be plenty of penguins on the island willing to send you one – just make sure your mailbox isn’t full!

CP Rewritten: Rockhopper’s Jolly Giveaway
Rockhopper has begun visiting the island for the Holiday Party on Club Penguin Rewritten, having appeared on Crystal for the first time today! As always, he was tracked by the tracker.
Although his new background has already been revealed, I just wanted to share his playercard and how it looks on your playercard for those curious.
Here’s how the new background, titled Rockhopper’s Jolly Giveaway, looks like on your playercard! It’s the ninth background of Rockhopper, but it’s a unique and new one.
If you haven’t met him yet, don’t worry! There’ll be plenty of opportunities as he visits throughout the Holiday Party, and hopefully the tracker should help you, so good luck!

CP Rewritten: Rockhopper’s Background for the Holiday Party
Rockhopper will be visiting throughout the Holiday Party this month with a brand new background! Although the official name isn’t yet known, an image has been shared showing the full background. It depicts the Migrator and the Northern Lights, along with a festively-dressed Rockhopper!
In order to receive this background, you’ll need to meet Rockhopper in-game. The tracker should help with that, and he’ll be visiting plenty of times until the party ends, so there should be many opportunities for everyone to meet him!
Good luck doing so!

Club Penguin Rewritten: Holiday Party 2020 – Full Guide
The Holiday Party has started on Club Penguin Rewritten until December 31st, bringing Coins for Change, lots of beautifully decorated rooms and more to the island! This post will provide a guide to the party. 🦌
Rockhopper is confirmed to visit for this party with a new background, and you can find his tracker here.
To start with, if you click the top right gift icon on your screen, you’ll find the Coins for Change interface. It contains a total count of the number of donations. When a certain figure is reached, more rewards become unlocked, and you can click “Collect” to gain them.
I should probably also explain how Coins for Change works: the team are intended to donate real money to real charities to help real people and animals. However, a set amount of money which has already been decided will be donated. Coins for Change serves as a vote: the percentage of the vote for the three options in-game will be the percentage each charity gets.
Donation stations can be found across the island, along with on the interface. Donating any amount to any option will get you the 2020 CFC Pin.
If you haven’t already, you can also obtain three stamps through donations to Coins for Change:
- Volunteer – donating any amount
- Top Volunteer & Epic Volunteer – donating 10K coins in one go
Along with this, you can find a whole catalog of items by clicking the bottom right of your screen in any main room. There’s no hidden items in it, but it does offer a wide range of items!
Rockhopper has also returned to the island! If you visit the Beach, you’ll be able to board his ship if you have the key. If you’ve not already obtained the key, head to the Book Room and read the “Journal of Captain Rockhopper”. You will find the key on the last page so you can explore all the Migrator!
With this key, you can enter the Store Hold, which has a catalog that can be accessed by clicking the icon at the bottom right of your screen. It contains two secrets.
By visiting the Book Room and clicking the camera at the bottom of the room, you’ll be able to pick up the Santa Seat Background.
You can also receive the Santa’s Present Bag by delivering 15 presents on Santa’s Sleigh. To do this, head to the Arcade (Dance Lounge) and then the sleigh, and press the red release button above the chimneys.
You may already have this item from a previous Christmas Party though.
The Bakery can also be accessed from the Arcade/Dance Lounge; there’s a door to the right of the room. You can go through the Staff Entrance to enter the top half of the room (where the item is), or the usual door to access the bottom half.
The way the Bakery works is that penguins can throw snowballs at targets to produce servings of cookies. There’s three machines, and the target will appear next to each one. At the left of the room, you can find the Cookie Serving Apron for free.
At the top right of the room, you can find the Deluxe Gingerbread House Igloo. You’ll need to click the orange button on the microwave first, and then click the igloo which pops out.
The only other thing to note is there’s a really beautiful room (well, all the island is beautiful, but this one is exclusive to this party) with a huge tree that can be accessed from the bottom of the Plaza and the Town.
That concludes the guide for this event, but don’t forget to check the Advent Calendar at the Forest each day for another item! The pin guide can also be found here. Rockhopper will also be visiting with a new background soon, so stay tuned for that.
Thank you very much for reading, be sure to check back for more of the latest Club Penguin Rewritten news and guides!
