CP Rewritten: New Client – Common Questions
I’ve been reading everyone’s comments and messages this week, and there’s been lots of questions about the new Club Penguin Rewritten client! I thought that it’d be easiest to answer them all in a single post.
I can’t seem to log on!
It’s worth noting that this is the beta period, and so the game is frequently down for maintenance, so you might just want to try logging on later. The “Penguin is already online” error is being worked on as a matter of priority. I’m afraid that I don’t have a solution for it.
Password resets were fixed today, so you can reset your password as normal now.
Where are puffles and most mini-games?
Puffles haven’t been added at all yet, but when they are, you’ll still have your ones which you had from last year. If you’re seeing a puffle in-game, it’s probably Flare, who is the EPF puffle which can be accessed from your inventory. However, players who were holding a puffle when the transition period started in December can continue to do so.
Several mini-games are missing; the most popular ones are being developed as a priority, and that includes Card Jitsu & Pizzatron 3000.
What are the main known bugs?
There’s definitely a variety of bugs which the team are working on, and if you’ve discovered one, it’s best to contact them (you can email them) about it rather than leaving a comment here as this is just a fan-blog. But to give you an idea about the main bugs being worked on:
- “Penguin is already online” error
- Stuck in an infinite loading loop
- Special dances aren’t behaving as normal
- Funky chat bugs & text input on login when using mobile
- Issues with mini-games (especially Ice Fishing)
- Issues with igloos (mainly relating to Igloo Locations)
- Some items don’t appear on the playercard properly
- Joining room issues
As always, I’ll continue to try and answer questions in the comments, but I hope that helps clear up the most common ones which I’m seeing!

(By the way, I’m going to stop referring to the new client as the “HTML5 client” as much going forward; at some point, it’s necessary just to refer it to as just “Club Penguin Rewritten”! That means the “HTML5 version” category might be a little less useful now that #CPR2020 has concluded.)

Club Penguin Rewritten Returns in HTML5!
It’s been a fairly long wait of three weeks, but Club Penguin Rewritten has returned with its brand new HTML5 client! It might initially feel a little different since the game now uses a completely different technology, but the main elements are all here.
It’s worth noting that this is still a beta; the team are working on fixing various bugs, and re-introducing different mini-games remains a priority. The game will probably still take some time to get used to!
I’ll be sure to keep you updated with any new information as it’s released, but please don’t be surprised by any bugs which you encounter as this is a beta!

CP Rewritten: Game to Relaunch Today
Some exciting news has been shared which many players have been awaiting this month: Club Penguin Rewritten will be returning later today with its new HTML5 client!
If you try visiting the site now, you’ll be able to tell that it’s a little broken. The team are aware of this issue, and the error will be fixed once the game has released later today. There’s no set time for when this will be!
The island might feel a little different since there’ll be less mini-games, but your penguin have all its data transferred over. It’s definitely something which people have been looking forward to for a while though, and the wait will soon be over!

CP Rewritten: HTML5 Transition – “Polishing” Stage
Just to give you a little update about the HTML5 transition, the Club Penguin Rewritten team have now stated that they’re at the “polishing” stages; in other words, although it’s running smoothly, they’re just ensuring that everything is functioning properly.
The team also shared a sneak peek which confirmed that the modernised Pet Shop would finally be arriving! It also shows that the HTML5 client is capable of handling a large audience.
It looks like that we’ll be set to be given a release date within the upcoming days, with the team stating that they’re hoping to provide one “very soon”. When that’s provided, I’ll be sure to let you know!

CP Rewritten: Gold Game Controller Pin Sneak Peek
At the start of the month, it was revealed that there’d be a pin to mark the transition to HTML5! Last night, the Club Penguin Rewritten team revealed an image of the pin, and it appears to be a golden game controller. They also stated that it would be obtainable by finding it on the island within two weeks of the HTML5 client launching!
In regards to when the HTML5 client will be available, the team have now stated that they’re hoping to have it launched by the end of next week, but this isn’t necessarily a guarantee. I’ll be sure to keep you updated as more is revealed though!

CP Rewritten: Plans for Spanish & Portuguese Servers
For a while now, many players have hoped to see Spanish and Portuguese servers on Club Penguin Rewritten! Previously, the team stated that they’d love to do this, but it’d be difficult to achieve; a new language involves translating all the assets, as well as introducing moderation for those servers. However, that has changed! The team have now confirmed that they are intending to introduce Spanish and Portuguese servers.
We are excited to now confirm to you all we plan on translating the client to Spanish and Portuguese in the near future. We’ve been hearing you all during your days on Club Penguin Rewritten and we are now fully listening for this brand new chapter of ours.
Once our client has been translated, it is important to note that those on different languages will be on their own servers and will not be connecting to other languages.
-stu, Club Penguin Rewritten administratorIt should be stressed that it’s unlikely these new languages will be introduced anytime soon; there’s still a lot of work that goes into getting servers with a new language ready for release, and the team have already made clear that their priority is releasing the HTML5 English version. However, it’s definitely something that many penguins might look forward to in the months ahead!

CP Rewritten: HTML5 Transition Update
I can imagine that people might be growing pretty tired of these “update” posts, and you might just be waiting for the post confirming that Club Penguin Rewritten has returned! However, sadly, there’s still a few issues until that occurs.
Update – 15th January: the team have confirmed implementation of the chat filter has been successfully completed! They have stated that there’s only “small changes” left, and have privately planned a date for release.
Last night, the team released another statement providing an update about the progress of the HTML5 transition. I’ll post the full thing, but it’s a bit long, so to summarise: although the transfer has concluded and that is the most time-consuming element, there are other changes which are blocking the release, namely implementation of the in-game chat filter.
Penguins, we understand a lot of you are still waiting for our HTML5 release. Here is what has been happening over the last few days: we have finished with the transfers – that has all been done and [is] successful. It took a while due to a lot of trial and error with the transfers.
During this time, we noticed a few issues such as some major bugs that stopped penguins with large amounts of data from entering the server; we believe to have done a quick fix to this. Our main focus right now is working on the in-game chat filter and some small little things. We hope to be done with the in-game chat filter soon. We must urge players to understand we can not release without this chat filter; it is important to release with it included.
The maintenance has allowed us to add some small things such as an option for penguins to be hidden on the search Friends List feature that is new to the HTML5 client.
There’s not really much else to say other than hopefully it’s all resolved soon! I’ll be sure to keep you updated though.

CP Rewritten: HTML5 Transition – Transfers Complete
Just a little quick update for everyone about the HTML5 transition period: all accounts have now been transferred by the Club Penguin Rewritten team. All that’s left now is testing, but sadly, it isn’t really clear how long this could still take.
As a reminder, the game will definitely be back by the end of the month, but beyond that, the team have been reluctant to reveal precise details. A lot of it relies on how many bugs are currently on the island!
Today marks a sad day in the HTML5 transition period too: Adobe Flash, the technology which supported Club Penguin, has formally been retired. However, the game should hopefully be back soon with the HTML5 client once testing has concluded!

CP Rewritten: Pin to Mark HTML5 Transition
Just to give you a little update about how things are going with the HTML5 transition period: alpha testing has now concluded, and the team are currently transferring accounts in order to prepare for launch.
Not much news has been released other than that, and I can’t provide a date on when to expect the game back up, however the team did state that they’re planning to give those who logged in during beta a pin.
I don’t know if we are still doing [fireworks] as we are a bit behind on everything, but I can see what we can do. I think our plan is to just give everyone a pin for those logging in during the beta build.
-stu, Club Penguin Rewritten administratorI’m sorry that there isn’t much more information which I can provide, but I’ll definitely to keep you updated if something new is revealed! Until that though, there’s nothing I can say in terms of dates, I’m afraid.

CP Rewritten: Testing of HTML5 Resumes
The test mode of the HTML5 client for Club Penguin Rewritten has returned! It can be accessed at this link: https://play.cprewritten.net/2020/
Update – 3rd January: If you see a black/grey screen when trying to log in, it’s because the testing is down – that’s intentional, and you won’t be able to log in!
I must stress that this is still the testing version; the transfer of account data has not occurred yet, and features such as igloos haven’t been added. Even this version will only last for a limited time until the official HTML5 client is launched.
If you’re facing issues when logging in, you’ll probably need to clear your cache. Please remember though that this isn’t the official launch of the HTML5 version, and we’re still undergoing the transition period! It’s unlikely any data or progress you make during this period will be saved.
