CP Rewritten: Ambition to Complete Transfer by January 5th
As you’re probably aware, we’re currently in the transition period to HTML5, where it isn’t possible to play Club Penguin Rewritten! This is to ensure that the data of accounts can successfully be transferred over to the new HTML5 client.
One of the most popular questions has been when this will be completed. The team have now stated that their ambition is to have it finished by January 5th. Notably, that does not mean the transfer will be completed by then.

We’re aiming for January 3rd-4th or 5th but I don’t know; it depends when we are done with the transferring.
-stu, Club Penguin Rewritten administratorEven though it’s not a precise date, I think that it’s helpful in conveying that the transition period is going to last a matter of days rather than a prolonged extent of time!

Club Penguin Rewritten Retires its Flash Version
Flash Player has been the technology which Club Penguin Rewritten has relied on since it began, however as the year concludes, it’s going to be retired by browsers. As a result, the version of the game which we’re most familiar with has now closed.

I must assure you: this isn’t the end of Club Penguin Rewritten! Although it won’t be possible to play the game for a bit, the data of every single account is being transferred to the new HTML5 client. This is more modern technology, and it’ll be launched and available to play soon.
When it does launch, some aspects will initially be missing, mainly many mini-games and puffles. It’s a priority of the team to re-add them as quickly as possible, but this may take a while.

CP Rewritten: Flash Version to Close in Hours
From tonight, Club Penguin Rewritten will be retiring its Flash version of the game which we’ve grown familiar with over the last few years. This will occur at 8pm GMT, and that’s the final time which you have to do anything with the current Flash version, from collecting the final items at the Holiday Party to taking any last screenshots.
As a reminder, this is not the end of Club Penguin Rewritten; the game will be transitioning to a new technology, HTML5, but this will take some time to achieve. No data (eg. items/friends/stamps) is going to be lost from your account, but initially, there’ll be substantially less content: it seems like there’ll be around eight mini-games at launch, for example, and that puffles will be missing. It’s a priority of the team to implement, at the earliest possible stage, all missing games, such as Pizzatron 3000, Cart Surfer and Card-Jitsu.
So, a big day for the future of the game, and I just wanted to make you aware of the precise date! Please remember to take any final screenshots on the Flash version.

CP Rewritten: List of Things to Expect at HTML5 Launch
The transition to HTML5 will begin at the end of this month on Club Penguin Rewritten! Earlier today, the team released a comprehensive list of the main things we can expect at launch.
- Around 8 mini-games
- Igloo decorating
- Catalogs
- Parties
A sneak peek was also released of igloo decorating on HTML5! Probably the most impressive thing about it is how smoothly it all runs, and the HTML5 version should be notably faster.

It’s quite clear that a lot will also be missing, but don’t worry! It’ll all be added in over time: the team have made clear that every mini-game will be implemented at “some point”.
The other noticeable thing missing from that list are the changes to Puffle Care, which were supposed to come with HTML5. The team have clarified that will become a priority after the initial bug fixes.
Puffles will be still in development and we hope to shift our focus on them after a few bug fixes, etc.
-stu, Club Penguin Rewritten administratorLastly, no more non-urgent bug fixes will be implemented to the Flash version given that it will be retired within a few days.

CP Rewritten: Downtime “For Several Days” Next Week
As you may be aware by now, the technology which Club Penguin Rewritten is currently reliant on (Flash) will be retired by browsers at the end of this year. In order to ensure that the game continue, the team have been working on a HTML5 version, which is a more modern technology that will be supported long into the future, and you can learn more about it here!
Part of the transition between the two different types of technology will require some downtime at the end of the year. In other words: from December 31st, the game will be down for “several days”.
There are only 7 days left of the Adobe Flash version of Club Penguin Rewritten, and the game will be down for several days starting on [December] 31st, which is when we will complete our move to HTML5.
-Thorn, Club Penguin Rewritten administrator
This is important if you enjoy Club Penguin Rewritten, so please be aware that there is only one week left to enjoy the current “version” of the game before it’s retired.

CP Rewritten: Ambition to Convert Operation Swarm to HTML5
A common question is one asking why Operation Swarm was cancelled rather than delayed until next year. The reasoning is because by January, Club Penguin Rewritten will be using different technology called HTML5, and Operation Swarm was developed with the current technology called Flash. These two aren’t compatible with each other, so even though all the party assets were completed, they’d have to be completely redone.
The team have now indicated an ambition to try and do that, which means that Operation Swarm could happen early next year.
I’ll be working with Gravix [developer] to convert everything for HTML5. I hope to actually change up a few things and try some new technology out. I’m planning on working with him to bring this to life in our HTML5 client. The aim is for January but ZERO PROMISES.
-stu, Club Penguin Rewritten administratorI must level with you: I would strongly advise not getting your hopes up; based on my judgement, which may be disputed, the chance of Operation Swarm still actually happening is probably extremely slim; the team have refused to guarantee that it’ll be released, stating they cannot make any promises, and understandably so given the challenging task to convert everything.
The information on this has been changing constantly, and my understanding is that the Club Penguin Rewritten team have wanted this post to be put out, but as a consequence of this changing information, I must provide a strong caveat by warning that I am heavily skeptical it will run: it is merely an ambition for now.

CP Rewritten – HTML5: Igloos & Catalogs
A large number of updates were recently made to the Club Penguin Rewritten HTML5 version, which you can play here. Since it’s been a while, I just wanted to run you through anything which you may have missed.
The main update is that igloos and catalogs (Penguin Style & Furniture Igloo) have been added! The igloo system is different to the Flash version as it’s more modern; you can now have multiple igloos at once, and it’s easier to find different furniture. So far, you can only use the default igloo, though that’ll change later.

The full list of changes is fairly extensive, along with the list of known bugs, but here’s the list of gameplay updates if you’d like to check out:
- Igloos have been added to the game!
- Furniture Catalog is now available for use.
- Penguin Style Catalog is now available for use! Show off your awesome outfits with the now-outdated June catalog.
- The Igloo Editor has been implemented with the “brand-new” AS3 design! You can now create and save up to 4 different igloos.
- Forest room has been added.
- You can now see penguins while editing your igloo!
I’ll continue to try and keep you in the loop on progress made to the HTML5 version, especially as the transition grows closer. Thank you for reading, waddle on!

CP Rewritten – HTML5: Igloo Plans, Hydro Hopper & Buddies
Happy August! Earlier in the week, I mentioned that I’d try to summarise all of the updates to the HTML5 version every once in a while, so I thought that’d be worth doing now since a lot has been added. As always, you can play it here.
The first big update is that Hydro Hopper has been added to the Dock! It’s the second mini-game to be on the new version, along with Puffle Roundup at the Pet Shop. The known bugs with this are the missing string, the fact your penguin colour doesn’t change, missing water ripples and transparency of the boat.

The second big update is the buddy list has been added! It doesn’t currently display your friends from the actual Flash version, but the latest update does allow you to search for friends. This means you no longer need to meet people in order to add them.
It is worth warning that it’s plausible that the Friends List could be reset before it properly launches though.

Improved igloo systems have been pledged by the team for a while now, and they have already stated that the bulk of the reform will be introduced with the new HTML5 version. A sneak peek has been released of the modern igloo system which makes decorating so much easier! You’ll also be able to save multiple igloos.
Igloo likes will be added, but unlike on classic Club Penguin, only the igloo creator will be able to see how many likes they have; they won’t appear publicly on the map.

Lastly, just a small piece of information about the transition from the current Flash client to the new HTML5 one: there will not be a farewell party for the transition. That pretty much covers all of the updates though, and I’ll of course keep you updated about new information as it is released!

CP Rewritten – HTML5: Puffle Roundup Introduced
The first mini-game has been added to the HTML5 version of Club Penguin Rewritten, which you can play here. You can now play Puffle Roundup at the Pet Shop, which was a room released very recently!
It should be noted though that coins are not transferred between the HTML5 version and the typical current version.

It’s pretty amazing seeing the island slowly come to life, especially as this is the first mini-game. In the update that brought this change, the “Mute music” button was also fixed.
Once again though, I’ll try and ensure that only the important information regarding updates to the HTML5 version are posted; I thought this was pretty cool, especially since it’s the first mini-game!

CP Rewritten – HTML5: Pet Shop & Iceberg Released
I’ve been pretty torn on whether or not I should post updates regarding Club Penguin Rewritten’s HTML5 version, also known as #CPR2020, but I think that I’ll make a post whenever something significant is released in regards to gameplay, such as a new feature or room. Generally, several smaller updates are released frequently, and the team tend to release a list of all changes, but most of them are minor.
Earlier today, a slightly larger update was released! Emotes are now available to use, and the Iceberg and Pet Shop can now also been visited.

To give you an idea of the amount of work being done, and why I can’t do a post for each update, here’s a list of updates so far since Sunday in lists released by the team:
- Penguin size is now smaller.
- Playercard doll items now fade-in when loaded.
- Some UI elements such as the Playercard are loaded before penguin clothing to allow you to access them quicker.
- Penguin clothing sprites now load in a queue.
- Fixed infinite loading for dynamic interface elements.
- The login screen received security improvements.
- Settings menu now displays the correct server you are currently on.
- Playercard stamps button now acts like a proper button.
- Penguin waddling has been made framerate independent to prevent super-speed penguins on some devices.
- Snowballs have been made framerate independent with increased throw speed.
- Chat dock now only allows certain characters and emojis.
- Playercard no longer opens when throwing snowball at a penguin.
- Fixed room triggers and login issues.
- Improved performance with clothing sprite synchronization & minor bug fixes.
- Playercard sort->other menu only shows when hovered over.
- Fixed some room triggers.
- Player nicknames don’t show behind sprites.
- Town disco stars are now off to save energy while they’re not being used.
- Clothing sprite and inventory loading has been optimized and infinite inventory loading has been fixed.
- Added emotes!
- Added Playercard ribbon.
- Added Iceberg and Pet Shop (puffles have not been added).
- Hovering over a button now shows a tooltip.
- Improved graphics quality for the Town.
- Settings menu now shows your penguin age.
- Music from a previous room will no longer play after it’s unmuted in another room.
- Interface now resets when you switch rooms.
- Penguins can no longer sit while moving.
- Clock tower target now works.
As you can tell, that’s quite a lot, and making a post for each one would be neither helpful nor easy! So, I’ll try to use my judgement in filtering the important stuff, and maybe do a weekly round-up of all the minor updates. I also recognise most people will probably be interested in the current Flash version, and will bear that in mind!
