The Club Penguin Times #2 – Club Penguin Closing Down

Newsflash:
Club Penguin is closing a major door in its history on March 29 2017. Many players have used the hashtag “#WithoutClubPenguin” to appreciate some of the many things which would never have been possible without our snowy island.
This is a sad edition to produce and pretty soon, The Club Penguin Times will only be fan-made here and not official in the real game. As much as I wish to stick to the new game, I must note that we have tipped the Iceberg and beneath it contains a special note, which I will share in this edition! We’ve got stories, a sad discussion, questions, articles and more!

How did we get here? How did we get from “The Big Update” in 2005 to aisles being filled with merchandise and membership sales booming to having an amazing community with an amazing team to this, a closing announcement?
Over the past few days, I’ve read how Club Penguin has helped so many people, from another staff member’s perspective to a player who was diagnosed with autism to so many more. The game hasn’t helped me directly (except for giving me something to use in presentations) but it has in so many ways but ways which are so hard to convey with a keyboard. It’s interesting though because I doubt I would really be interested in a keyboard if it wasn’t for Club Penguin.
As much as I would love to focus on the memories and what the game has done for me in this article, I can’t. As a blogger, it’s hard to describe the feeling when you know what you want to say but just can’t get it out. But have no doubt, this game does mean so much to me. Instead, I’d like to say that this is a major change in Club Penguin’s history. I am sad, even though I knew I predicted the game wouldn’t last until April.
This is very brief because there’s so much I want to say in the future (and I will), but now we must move on from the vine which we’re currently holding on to. Jump like Experimental Penguins to Penguin Chat, to Club Penguin and now to Club Penguin Island. Because staying on that vine is safe but there’s more too it. There’s more on this journey. And if you fall off, then the Club Penguin franchise really is over.
Billybob talked about how Club Penguin is never about standing still, it’s always part of the journey. This is the next part of a long journey, a journey that has lasted 18 years.

Many penguins are unable to move to Club Penguin Island and from what we’ve heard, The Penguin Band appears to be some of them! That leaves a pretty cool stage empty but fear not, you could be the band!
“One of my friends just decided to join a dozen other penguins on the Stage. There were lights, fire and confetti!”, said one penguin. “I saw a mixture of drums, keytars and guitars. Whilst I think it is a shame that The Penguin Band cannot play on this beautiful set, it’s awesome that we can”.
No doubt the biggest news is the announcement of Club Penguin closing, with an enormous spike in traffic with YouTubers making final videos on the island and protesters complaining about the decision. However, there’s also a bit of other news we’ve posted throughout the week:News:
- Club Penguin Island: DISNEY SHOP OUTFITS! (Paid?)
- In-App Purchases in Club Penguin Island?
- Change your Name in Club Penguin Island?
- Exclusive, Special & Reset Club Penguin Island Items
- Club Penguin Island App Update & More
- Jet Pack Guy Flying to Club Penguin Island?
- Unreleased Club Penguin Island Items
Other:
- Chris Gliddon’s Powerful Post
- Glitch: Sea Caves at Different Angles
- Win a Physical Club Penguin Badge!
Admittedly, many bloggers have been relaxed on news and are planning to talk about Club Penguin closing. I am one of the people who has a lot planned before the game truly ends on March 29th and I request you read back frequently to find out what that is!

Q. What are your priorities for Club Penguin Island?
-Joemcq
A. That’s a great question! There are two things which I would really like to see prioritised in Club Penguin Island.
The first of those are safety features. I think many of us who have played have seen inappropriate penguin names or due to the new filter, inappropriate chat from advertising to rude things that simply shouldn’t be on our island.
I don’t believe that the answer lies in making things more restrictive, though an Ultimate Safe Chat where you can only use and see the quick chat phrases is a necessity. That would eventually just lead to a filter like the one we have now but I would like to see that automatic filter removed when choosing a penguin name.
Instead, I’d prefer if we knew when a moderator dealt with our report to give us and parents a peace of mind. It could be as easy as a thank you at the top of your screen but when a moderator review your report, we ought to know!
My second priority is puffles because truthfully, they’re the face of the Club Penguin franchise. They should not be edited or changed whatsoever like the mascots have. I think they should remain cute and instantly recognisable, even to those who aren’t a fan like you and I.Q. How did you think of the name, “Club Penguin Mountains”?
-FriendJad
Thanks for sending in your question! This is something which I have discussed on the “About“ page in detail, but I’ll quickly summarise it now.
Formerly this blog was known as “Club Penguin Torres 126” but I just didn’t like that name. Its domain was too long and it just didn’t look right. It was nighttime and I was in bed in South Africa and decided that I wanted it to be “Club Penguin *noun*”. I’m not sure how I thought of “Mountains”, but the domain was available and I liked it so I just worked from there.

Q. Do you think Club Penguin Island can bring back the heyday activity of original Club Penguin?
-Tech70
A. Club Penguin Island reaching a peak of over a million users at once is something I just can’t imagine unfortunately. As for the accounts, I really don’t see how they can get over 300 million users again.
That being said, I do think that it will be successful enough to press on for years to come. I feel like it has lots of potential but that potential really needs to be fulfilled. The game is starting from scratch and the team can’t assume that just because they ran a game for 11 years that this will be successful.
It’s pretty hard to answer this question at such early stages, particularly when the game’s prediction was so inaccurate that they even added another country to geo-beta. However, I’ve got hope, particularly if we see some good advertising to attract old and new players! But hey, if my teacher has pre-registered, there’s a lot of hope!
Poll:
Last weeks poll was “What would you want to see more of in the new game?” and the results are in!
- More features/things to do (50%)
- More areas (20%)
- More quests/adventures (15%)
- More levels with things to unlock (15%)
Depends entirely on the cost.

This week’s poll is on the future of Club Penguin. Many players have been asking one of the original three founders, Lance Priebe/Rocketsnail, if he could purchase the game and he has said it depends on the cost.
My question for you is do you think that there’s a future for official desktop Club Penguin after March 29th?
As much as I would love to say “yes” to this question, I personally don’t think that there is, but that’s why I wish to hear from you!

Edek2012 made this epic “Club Penguin Mountains” logo. Thank you!

The Club Penguin Times #1

Newsflash:
Starting from today, as part of our new blog, we’ll be delivering a newsletter every week or second week to our website. These Sunday newsletters will be packed with exciting Club Penguin Island content from the latest news to discussions to featuring the community to pretty much anything! We hope you enjoy our first edition!

Rockhopper has successfully delivered the first few residents of the new island using the Migrator, a ship which he redesigned for this long journey! Unfortunately, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. We caught up with a penguin who told us his experience.
“I was so excited as we approached the island but suddenly geysers shot through the ship! Rockhopper instructed everyone onboard to use a cannon to escape to the iceberg before the Migrator exploded”, one penguin told us.
Aunt Arctic, island director, has informed The Club Penguin Times that the ship has been fixed after an issue with the Lighthouse. Rockhopper is currently sailing back to the island now to collect new penguins, but some of the people we interviewed are concerned that the journey is still too dangerous.

As the Club Penguin Island party has almost ended, Aunt Arctic has begun to write up the information which has been found in tourist booths! That being said, we also have a lot of news regarding Club Penguin Island.
Here’s some of the most recent news we’ve heard in the past week, though there’s not been much. Click/tap a title to get more detailed information about that piece of information!
- Club Penguin Island to Have 30 Worlds
- Club Penguin Island Release Announced
- Club Penguin Island Features are Final
- Club Penguin Island App Icon Changes
There hasn’t been much information about the new island this week but when there is, we’ll be sure to let you know!

A question that has made everyone rather curious over the last few days is why classic Club Penguin has to end. In this article, i’m going to try and help explain the reason for this.
The game requires Adobe Flash to run but some major security flaws have been discovered with this program. As such, many browsers are beginning to discontinue the service and that means trouble to Club Penguin! In Megg’s own words, she said that “Flash is dying”.
Fortunately, the team have innovated with Club Penguin Island, a completely new game which has been built from scratch in a program known as Unity. Although the game is currently only available on mobile, Unity can be used for almost any device, including desktop and even consoles. The issue is that the team still want to add to the mobile version first for they’ve had to redo everything they’ve accomplished in the last eleven years. So if Flash is becoming less popular, when will the team finally end the game we know and love? Well, it’s hard to tell for sure, though it’s definitely going to be happening soon and almost certainly in 2017. To put this into perspective, we don’t even know if March will have a party!
I reckon that the game will close no later than May or June, but it’d be lucky to even see April. Everything has been leading up to this point, including the discontinuation of membership cards and the launch of the new game. It’s only a matter of weeks before the game is finally over and honestly, with the lack of additional content to the new game, it’s not worth keeping it alive.Club Penguin Island is the future, whether we like it or not, for it’s a continuation of the Club Penguin franchise when the game finally closes soon.
Poll:
The new game is approaching soon! Based on what you’ve experienced or seen, what would you like to see more of in the future? The results will be featured in our next edition and sent to the team!

Q. Why can’t I just play Club Penguin Island now? -Perrythepal
A. That’s a very good question! As you know, the game is currently in geo-beta, meaning that only three countries can officially take part in the beta without using “alternative methods”.
It’s important to remember that the beta feedback which we give will be used to help make the game better when it launches! This means that many bugs which testers have experienced won’t be there when the game launches to help make everyone get a better experience!
Despite this, I think that an open beta should have been better so that more bugs could get squashed and so that everyone could play! After all, we’ve all been waiting years for this and I think that it would have been far better if we all go to play rather than just a few hundred of the thousands who waited patiently.
I disagree with the team’s decision on the closed beta and geo-beta, but worldwide launch is approaching fast! You can pre-register on their website to receive exclusive items when you first log in. I can’t wait to meet you on the new island!
Q. What do you think of your blog? -Captain J153
A. Hmm…that’s a tough one! I’m committed to providing quality and safe content for all viewers, and it’s up to you to say if I do that well. Do you like this blog?
Puzzle:
Each edition will feature a special puzzle related to Club Penguin Island, whether it be a wordsearch, a crossword, something to find or more! Today’s puzzle is a wordsearch which features some of the Sea Caves rooms. Here are the 5 words:
- ThroneRoom
- CrabsDen
- GlowGrotto
- RaceCave

Fan Art:

Captain J153 sent in this amazing drawing of Rockhopper! Our editors were stunned by the detail and pose of our penguin pirate! Thank you for sending it in!

Club Penguin Island Party Recap & Highlights
Last night, seven bloggers proudly hosted a successful party which dozens came to including some Club Penguin Island staff! It was such a great success and it showed just truly how much there is to do on our island. I recorded the entire hour and whilst you may not watch it all, you might want to see some things again!
Welcome Circle:
At 14:00 PST, the party started at the Welcome Circle! A bunch of fireworks were launched along with party blasters whilst we waited for a few people to attend. Pretty soon, the party was packed!
Foodtrekker:
A few minutes into the party, we head over to the Foodtrekker to use up all of our party supply trays. It was great as there were lots of people who hadn’t completed the Daily Challenge that required you to get food from another person. It was also so cool to see all those fishburgers being eaten and hot cocoa (or coffee in the eyes of Megg) being consumed!
Stage:
At Coconut Cove, both non-members and members came together to create an awesome band! The stage was full and it was so hard to see anyone! Eventually, Megg had to go but it was awesome she took time to come and visit for a bit!
Race Course:
After our performance was over, we had a race in the Sea Caves. I came third and that’s pretty impressive seeing how many people there were! Congratulations to TheJbot for winning! I hope to see more games like this in the future. We already know that Sled Racer is coming!
Party Submarine:
The Party Submarine was an awesome place to share some more food and launch fireworks. We didn’t stay too long but you can’t have a proper party without visiting this place!
Throne Room:
On our way to the Glow Grotto, we stopped at the Throne Room to launch party blasters and take some cool screenshots. After all, the Throne Room is my favourite room because it just looks amazing!

Glow Grotto:
Finally we reached the deepest point of Club Penguin Island, the Glow Grotto! Here we waved a few glowsticks and stocked up on party supplies before the race back to the surface!
Lazy River:
After a long diving experience, we relaxed at the Cove’s lazy river before exploring some of the islands located nearby!
Migrator:
Then we waddled back to Beacon Boardwalk where we had some sword fights on the Crow’s Nest of the Migrator!
Mystery Ruins…
After visiting a few minor attractions such as the Lighthouse, we concluded the event over at the mysterious ruins over at Coconut Cove. It’s hard to believe that the party lasted for an hour but it was so much fun!
I’d just like to give a huge thank you to the other 6 bloggers who helped to host the event but also to everyone for attending! It was a great deal of fun and we’re already planning to host more next year! I know these screenshots don’t seem so cool but when you’re actually on the game, it is amazing. This is what Club Penguin Island was designed for!

Club Penguin Island Journal: Discovering Magical Glitches
It was a brand new day on Club Penguin Island and that meant another adventure awaited! I jumped to my good friend Slidder2. He wanted to show me a few of the glitches which he had discovered across the island and I enthusiastically agreed to help check them out!The first place we went is to the Water Slide where it had been rumoured that your penguin could either fly, disappear, get stuck or do all three. Over the course of about 15 minutes, we managed to do all three.
It was so cool seeing our penguins fly. All we had to do was go towards the water slide, get on our tube and have the other person jump on us!
However, the most scary thing was a penguin who appeared and chanted this website’s name before waddling on. No penguin knew minion cul’s intentions and why they said this however it confused us! It’s always awesome to meet a viewer though!
With this glitch uncovered, we took a small break and we went to the Foodtrekker to indulge in Stinky Cheese! I met up with SKELETON KEY, another viewer of this blog! However, our lunch break was over and it was time to go hunting for more glitches. We didn’t just want to find the glitches, we wanted to find out why they were there!
Slidder2 believed that there were multiple hidden in the Lighthouse. It was rumoured that it was possible to go deep into the mountains, teleport and also fly! The first thing that happened when I tried to go up was that my head hit the balcony. Ouch!Eventually I joined Slidder2 on the Lighthouse’s balcony. It took multiple tries to be able to make this glitch work however eventually Slidder2 did it! I found it impossible so I just friend-jumped to them. We were on the mountains and on top of the shop!
It was awesome! Usually it’s impossible to get to these places however with an extraordinary amount of help from Slidder2, I was up there! We had to use the trackpad and jump at the same time. It sounds easy but it wasn’t! There were lots of other screenshots I had somewhere however I seem to have lost them. I think those pesky crabs stole them! 🙁
The path was very narrow and unfortunately, we slipped! It looked as if we were going to crash into the shop but magically we got teleported back to the centre of Beacon Boardwalk and near the entrance to Coconut Cove.

We were determined to find the source of these glitches! The first place we investigated was the Throne Room, the home of the magic sculptor. Although we had fun playing with them, it didn’t leave any clues as to why these magical glitches existed and how they could be fixed.
Unfortunately, it seemed as if hope was lost. Slidder2 had to go and so I waved goodbye.
A few hours later, I logged back on to see my friends list tell me that Meggasaurus (also known as Megg) was online at Beacon Boardwalk! A few penguins were there and were dancing at the Welcome Circle. Meggasaurus kindly shared some Hot Coca with us all and then we all looked for glitches together. A few players found one which allowed penguins to fly!

It was when we believed that we’ll never find the solution to these glitches that magnificent Megg told us the truth. They were the responsibility of the Club Penguin team and it was our job to report them! We can email any to “support@clubpenguinisland.com” and they will hopefully be fixed! It’s important to note the difference between glitches and bugs for glitches rarely are something which makes your experience on a game worse!
This post was not acted. The players mentioned are real people and these things actually happened although they were not all in the order shown in this post. I simply just took screenshots of my day on Club Penguin and made a fun story out of it to show some of the glitches on our game. There were no scripts and nothing was planned in advance! I’d like to give a thank you to everyone who took part, especially Slidder2 and Megg, for helping with this post! I’d also like to thank everyone for reading this now!
Waddle on!
