    Chris Gliddon’s Powerful Post

Amongst all these articles by popular websites and official news outlets, Chris Gliddon has written something extremely special which I would reccommend you read.

Many of you might know him as Polo Field, the moderator who joined the team in 2006 but left in 2015. In this article, he shares an untold perspective of Club Penguin, a history few know about and also talks about his time with the team. It is an amazing yet interesting read!

    Link: https://chrisgliddon.com/how-club-penguin-changed-my-life-b6d3f9a9625e

The reason why I am sharing that post here is because I know that many readers are active in the Club Penguin community but maybe not in the social media community. I just thought that those who were not aware about it would like to know.

Polo Field is now Tiger and amongst other things, he is teamed up with his friend Nathan to create a YouTube channel, Tiger/Wolf. You can check it out here!

Please go show Chris some love as he’s done so much for the community and for Club Penguin! Thank you! 🙂

    The Club Penguin Times #1

    cptimes

    Newsflash:

Starting from today, as part of our new blog, we’ll be delivering a newsletter every week or second week to our website. These Sunday newsletters will be packed with exciting Club Penguin Island content from the latest news to discussions to featuring the community to pretty much anything! We hope you enjoy our first edition!

    article1

Rockhopper has successfully delivered the first few residents of the new island using the Migrator, a ship which he redesigned for this long journey! Unfortunately, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. We caught up with a penguin who told us his experience.

“I was so excited as we approached the island but suddenly geysers shot through the ship! Rockhopper instructed everyone onboard to use a cannon to escape to the iceberg before the Migrator exploded”, one penguin told us.

Aunt Arctic, island director, has informed The Club Penguin Times that the ship has been fixed after an issue with the Lighthouse. Rockhopper is currently sailing back to the island now to collect new penguins, but some of the people we interviewed are concerned that the journey is still too dangerous.

    article3

As the Club Penguin Island party has almost ended, Aunt Arctic has begun to write up the information which has been found in tourist booths! That being said, we also have a lot of news regarding Club Penguin Island.

Here’s some of the most recent news we’ve heard in the past week, though there’s not been much. Click/tap a title to get more detailed information about that piece of information!

There hasn’t been much information about the new island this week but when there is, we’ll be sure to let you know!article2

A question that has made everyone rather curious over the last few days is why classic Club Penguin has to end. In this article, i’m going to try and help explain the reason for this.

The game requires Adobe Flash to run but some major security flaws have been discovered with this program. As such, many browsers are beginning to discontinue the service and that means trouble to Club Penguin! In Megg’s own words, she said that “Flash is dying”.

ee599ed2d22b29f65f1c3327c933b8d3Fortunately, the team have innovated with Club Penguin Island, a completely new game which has been built from scratch in a program known as Unity. Although the game is currently only available on mobile, Unity can be used for almost any device, including desktop and even consoles. The issue is that the team still want to add to the mobile version first for they’ve had to redo everything they’ve accomplished in the last eleven years.

So if Flash is becoming less popular, when will the team finally end the game we know and love? Well, it’s hard to tell for sure, though it’s definitely going to be happening soon and almost certainly in 2017. To put this into perspective, we don’t even know if March will have a party!

adventureI reckon that the game will close no later than May or June, but it’d be lucky to even see April. Everything has been leading up to this point, including the discontinuation of membership cards and the launch of the new game. It’s only a matter of weeks before the game is finally over and honestly, with the lack of additional content to the new game, it’s not worth keeping it alive.

Club Penguin Island is the future, whether we like it or not, for it’s a continuation of the Club Penguin franchise when the game finally closes soon.

    Poll:

The new game is approaching soon! Based on what you’ve experienced or seen, what would you like to see more of in the future? The results will be featured in our next edition and sent to the team!

    Q. Why can’t I just play Club Penguin Island now? -Perrythepal

    A. That’s a very good question! As you know, the game is currently in geo-beta, meaning that only three countries can officially take part in the beta without using “alternative methods”.

It’s important to remember that the beta feedback which we give will be used to help make the game better when it launches! This means that many bugs which testers have experienced won’t be there when the game launches to help make everyone get a better experience!

Despite this, I think that an open beta should have been better so that more bugs could get squashed and so that everyone could play! After all, we’ve all been waiting years for this and I think that it would have been far better if we all go to play rather than just a few hundred of the thousands who waited patiently.

I disagree with the team’s decision on the closed beta and geo-beta, but worldwide launch is approaching fast! You can pre-register on their website to receive exclusive items when you first log in. I can’t wait to meet you on the new island!

    Q. What do you think of your blog? -Captain J153

    A. Hmm…that’s a tough one! I’m committed to providing quality and safe content for all viewers, and it’s up to you to say if I do that well. Do you like this blog?

    Puzzle:

Each edition will feature a special puzzle related to Club Penguin Island, whether it be a wordsearch, a crossword, something to find or more! Today’s puzzle is a wordsearch which features some of the Sea Caves rooms. Here are the 5 words:

    1. ThroneRoom
    2. CrabsDen
    3. GlowGrotto
    4. RaceCave
    5. PartySub

My Review on Club Penguin Island

So far, we’ve all described Club Penguin Island as a great game. Other than reporting a few glitches and bugs, beta-testers haven’t really criticised the game too much. I’m going to give my honest thoughts on issues which have been bothering me about the game. I’m going to look at Club Penguin Island from a different view, think about the future and mention minor and major changes that need to happen.

I just want to say that these thoughts aren’t structured…I’ll probably jump from Daily Challenges to money to rooms. I’m first going to begin with changes that I think should be made along with concerns that I have. Hopefully they help the team!

    Finance Issues:

UPDATE: Please read this post on more complaints about this

Let’s start with finance. The game is on the route to failure.

In staff’s own words, the game is being started from scratch. That means everything, including the game’s values, is starting from scratch. In Billybob’s own words, Club Penguin never became a success because the team was more creative or because they could draw better. It’s because they started “with the heart of the parent and not the heart of business”.

So, I asked players on social media to decide that if Club Penguin Island is starting out with “the heart of business”. Unfortunately out of 30 people, 66% believe it has and that’s not good at all.
    heartofbusiness

Non-members need more, yes, however I just want to think about membership. If you’ve never heard of Club Penguin, why would you want to buy membership? Why would you want to spend $7 a month when there are literally free games out there which offer just as good, if not, better content. The problem with the team is that they think the way to encourage players to buy membership is to make more features around for non-members. That’s wrong, and popularity is something I want to discuss later.

Screenhog is a person who helped work on Club Penguin and Club Penguin Island. He believes that the game needs to support all players. Interacting with other people is a key part of the game which is available for all players but I don’t think that is enough.

The game has been put into mobile where there is just so much competition. Will $7 monthly subscriptions be enough to justify having an entire three-floor building (with a gym below it) owned just to maintain the game? However, the joy about mobile is that in just one tap, you could easily be pledging lots of money to a game monthly. The problem is that not many players are making at one top.

The solution? Advertising and expanding. At the moment, loyal supporters (such as myself – or at least I like to think that) will happily spend membership on money. However, all we have been promised that it will be “more and more worth it”. To be honest, I’m surprised they even went down the membership route altogether. It’s unusual to see that on mobile.

The good news is that Megg told me not to worry and that there will be sufficient advertising. I just thought I should include this in the post.

“I think the fact it’s a virtual world at your fingertips makes it unique.” -Megg

    Popularity Concerns:

I think that the Club Penguin Island team have really failed to successfully estimate how many players there are going to be in the geo-beta and when the game launches. It’s safe to say that the game isn’t going to reach 200 million registered accounts like the classic version did. My evidence for this is Daily Challenges.

    c0qtrwtwgaapuju

Eleven minutes left and we’ve not even completed 10% of the Daily Challenges. This makes me think that the team failed to predict how many people would buy memberships. The geo-beta has less players than the closed beta and that is concerning. A lot of the players who said they would return when Project Super Secret revealed haven’t and I’m sure that there’s a lot of those players.

Furthermore, when they are not underestimating, they’re overestimating! Some community challenges are completed within an hour of them being out and I’m talking these “difficult” ones. It would be interesting to hear just how many players have pre-registered. Maybe they could include a counter on their website? Not only would it fulfil our curiosity but it would also encourage others to join that number of players.

I go back to my original point that if they can’t even get players, how can they get players to invest money each month?

    Daily Challenges:

Having just mentioned these challenges, let me give you my opinion on Daily Challenges and character adventures. They are the most important thing to the game. Without Daily Challenges, there wouldn’t be much reason to log on every morning. The sad thing is that the team are not taking advantage of this and challenges only take about 10 minutes to complete.

    riddle

Do you remember Thirsty Jack’s Riddle? I really liked that because it meant we had to ask for lots of help which lead to us being on for a longer period of time. It also wasn’t impossible for non-members to complete however they had to get help from members. Ever since that challenge has come out, I’ve waited and waited for another riddle.

We need a daily riddle. In my opinion, the game needs to have difficulty levels for each challenge. There should be 2 easy ones, 1 hard one (the riddle) and the community one which should be a medium difficulty. They don’t need to even display their difficulty, it just needs to feel like that. This change would make the game better for both younger and older players to the point where I’m surprised that this isn’t even in the game already!

Oh, if you skip a challenge, you skip a challenge. There should not be any repeats of old challenges. New challenges for the win! Since beta progress is saved, I also believe that Daily Challenges in geo-beta should not repeat to make it fairer for everyone. Beta-testers will know how to complete it and they’ll probably lose interest with repeating challenges.

    Character Adventures:

    rockhopperadventure

Along with Daily Challenges, this is my favourite part of the game. It’s just a shame that there’s less than 15 episodes for you to complete. I’m hoping that each update adds to this but with a new adventure. For example, Aunt Arctic’s current quests are on about saving the island. Once you’ve done this (which the vast majority of players will within just a few days of playing the game) then there should be another plot for you to investigate and complete.

I go back to the fact that there needs to be different levels of difficulty. I’d quite like to see Rockhopper as easy adventures to complete, Aunt Arctic as medium and a new mascot as hard. The first mascot that comes to mind is Gary just because there’s been so many games based on him in the past. Add Gary and you’ve got the ability to make a whole new type of adventure with things to build and problems to solve.

As the game progresses more into the future, maybe we could have multiple adventures for each difficulty. All I’m saying is that you need to change it so daily challenges and adventures have different levels of difficulty.

    Earning Coins & Fishing:

    dj-stores

One thing that is annoying is that it’s actually really difficult to save up a decent amount of coins. The Exchange just doesn’t quite do it and when I tried to buy party supplies for our party, I couldn’t get very far before having to go get coins. Earning coins is simple in classic Club Penguin because there’s lots of mini-games. However, there’s nothing like that in Club Penguin Island but there’s more opportunity to spend coins.

The solution? Increase the rewards for catching fish. On average, you are estimated to get 133 coins fishing each day before your bait runs out. That’s barely enough to buy a tree costume but it’s where a large bulk of your coins come from. If the rewards are increased then that means more coins for members. Increasing coins for members prevents a repeat of where non-members complain that they have so many coins but can’t do anything with them.

    wp-1482919417181.png

If the rumours are true that you will be able to purchase more bait with real money, it currently doesn’t make much sense to as you’re likely to get around 133 coins for an extra 10 pieces of bait. However, if you up the rewards, it will no longer seem like such a big gamble. This will mean more people are likely to buy bait but it also means if you don’t want to buy bait, you can still be able to afford things.

Currently, there’s just not enough ways to earn coins but fishing is a great way to change that.

    Levelling up & Cheating:

I’ve just talked about how difficult it is to earn coins but now I’m going to talk about how easy it is to level up! In my opinion, it’s just too easy to do so. It doesn’t help that some players are using a bug in-game to max their level. I’ve emailed support about this but those people should have their progress reset to where everyone else should be! There should also be an option to report cheating.

    wp-1482749225832.png

The solution? Just add some levels so that no-one (except staff) reaches level 35 or something for at least a few months. This can be balanced with the addition of new character adventures, like I mentioned previously.

    List of bugs:

    • Able to cheat and redo Daily Challenges for extra XP – this immediately needs to be fixed and those who cheated should have their progress reset to where everyone else is in geo-beta (NOTE: This has now been fixed)
    • Some Daily Challenges literally don’t work until Kelowna (in Canada) wakes up. The solution to this is changing the Daily Challenge reset time to when the team is awake
    • Unable to jump to friends whilst underwater – you just go under the island and you’re forced to restart the game (see here)
    • Unable to jump to friends who are in a different area to you – the app usually crashes
    • Some (but not all) Android users are sometimes forced to buy membership if they want to play the game at all
    • The login system isn’t great at sometimes people get an “Unknown Error”. Other times their accounts are locked out for over 24 hours
    • Rockhopper’s Adventures is not reliable – the app crashes for some users when they try to equip a sword to fight dummies in Episode 3
    • It takes far too long to buy party supplies
    • License Credits do not load
    • There are many glitches but you’re unlikely to run into them. As such, I hope that they are not fixed. It gives something for older players to do when they are bored and I’ve certainly spent a lot of time exploring glitches (see here)

    Final Review:

Club Penguin Island is no doubt a great game and I think the wait for Project Super Secret is definitely worth it. I made this post mainly to show some of the negative things and some of the things that truly need to change but don’t let you put that off from downloading it. After all, the game is so much fun and there is so much to do!

    https://twitter.com/FlippyCP/status/813422398208937985

Club Penguin Island has just been built in a way which makes it seem like it can’t last forever. The thing is, mobile games never do but I just can’t imagine this game on desktop computers. This really depends on how successful the game is. My guess is that the game will last 5 years, give or take, before interest dies out. But it is essential that the game starts off well for it to even live that long.

Here’s the thing I really want to talk about though. Users are constantly going to be comparing the new game to the old game and asking if it was worth the 2 year wait. At the moment, there’s more to do on classic Club Penguin but the new game has so much potential. That’s good and I completely understand that the game isn’t even out worldwide yet and that everything needs to be created from scratch. The problem is that I don’t think everyone will be so understanding about that.

It’s fair to say that you the team what they are doing (hopefully). When it was announced that the game would be mobile only, everyone was outraged but whilst playing it now, I understand why this couldn’t be brought to a desktop computer. So now I’m going to give my score for the game.

    8.5/10

UPDATE: I have since reduced the score to 6/10 for this reason. I then changed it to 7/10 for the level of interaction we are getting from the Club Penguin team.

    Three Pros:

    • So much potential!
    • Ability to throw your own parties wherever and have fun.
    • An unwavering commitment to safety and security.

    Three Cons:

    • Too little places to explore and too little things to do – what next after you finish the Daily Challenges and all of the character adventures?
    • Too little players online – there seems to be less players than the closed beta and that means you can’t “waddle around and meet new friends”
    • Too many bugs (granted, game is in beta so I didn’t take this off the score)

As a geo-beta tester, those are my thoughts for Club Penguin Island! I’ll be emailing this to the team and possibly sending them a physical copy so that they can read it. You can do so too by emailing them! I’m sure that they are finding all feedback helpful.

Other posts made purely to express my opinion on the new game (excludes beta testing – you don’t need my opinion to know that was a mess):

I hope you enjoyed this post! Wow, that was long! Over 2300 words! Thank you for reading!

Club Penguin Island Closed Beta was Supposed to be for Bloggers

The closed beta of Club Penguin Island may be over however I’ve still been trying to find a reason on how the team messed it up so badly causing so much controversy and anger. I believe the answer lies with the for general manager, Spike Hike.

In 2014, a fan blog interviewed him and one of the questions that came up is interaction between the team and bloggers. This was his response. Be sure to read from where I drew the red line.

“On mobile, Apple has this new beta program in iOS 8 that allows you to have up to 1000 people beta test apps. We are talking about using that with bloggers for CP.” -Spike Hike, 2014

This program was TestFlight, the one used for the closed beta. In 2014, it supported only a thousand but it now supports double that.

The problem is, it was meant to be for bloggers. That was the main problem people had with the closed beta, those who spend so much of their time helping players and promoting the game didn’t get to play.

What went so wrong? What happened to the talks about bloggers testing Club Penguin Island? The closed beta was never meant to go so wrong so why did it? The question is, who lead the talks? I think Spike Hike did as he didn’t get too involved with the team. If he stayed, I think the closed beta would have been a success.

My Opinion and Megg’s Opinion on Alternative Methods to play Club Penguin Island

As you may know, this website has posted a tutorial on how to play Club Penguin Island even if you’re not in Australia or New Zealand. The fact that many people are doing this has angered some, however I think that it’s completely okay. We’ve also just heard an opinion from Megg, thanks to the screenshot which Nina1059 shared.

    Thanks Nina1059 for this image

Megg has said on behalf of Disney that they “don’t recommend” players doing it. At the end of the day, it appears she doesn’t really mind and that there will be no consequences for those who do use alternative methods than downloading it off the App Store or the Google Play Store. This afternoon, she liked a tweet saying that the team don’t mind people using such methods. She also liked a tweet which said that this is only being said so that the team can’t be blamed if anything goes wrong.

In my opinion, I don’t think it’s a bad thing. My friend reported a major bug to the Club Penguin Island team today which meant you could get unlimited XP and he’s not from Australia or New Zealand. I, along with many others, have purchased membership and that only helps the game get more money. We’re giving constructive feedback and reporting bugs. What more could you ask for?

Besides, without other players, it would be impossible to do even a community daily challenge. There are less than 100 downloads off the Google Play Store and only one review on the App Store. The closed beta allowed two thousand players to play and saying that the Geo Beta should have less players is ridiculous.

What’s your thoughts on this? Are you a player who, like myself, is currently playing? Or do you prefer to wait? I understand where some people are coming from, however we are helping the game!

My Opinion to the End of Parties on Club Penguin Island

Over the past few days, I’ve been posting a lot of Club Penguin Island news but the only thing I’ve really discussed is the beta controversy. Well, it was recently announced by Megg that there will not be parties as we know it in the new game. This news has received some rather mixed feelings and I personally think that this is for the better. In this discussion, I will define what will be replacing parties and why people like Billybob hinted at this six years ago.

    megg-on-parties

Before I begin, I’d like to mention that when I spoke to Craig Voight (a former Club Penguin artist) in June, he did suggest that parties might eventually come to the app. In this discussion, I’m mainly going to base my opinions and thoughts of the information we’ve received from Megg though. All this suggests is maybe the team changed their minds about parties.

I believe that it is a good thing if Club Penguin Island doesn’t have parties but there needs to be something to replace it. Users are complaining that there will be nothing to keep players from returning. Well, I disagree.

Not only are there three daily challenges as well as adventures but there’s stuff we don’t even know of at the moment. Megg has said that there will be “events”. However, let’s figure out what these are and how similar they will be to parties.

When it comes to parties on Club Penguin, one of the things which players complain about the most is the lack of challenging tasks. As you can see in the image above, Megg has informed us that parties will take place in the form of challenges in the Daily Quest and adventures. Surely we should be happy for this since it suggests that we will have more challenging tasks.

    yes-to-decorations

Decorations. At the moment, rooms are usually completely decorated. This won’t be the case on Club Penguin Island but Megg has confirmed that there will definitely be decorations around the island. This basically means that there won’t be full-room parties, which also is an end to takeovers! Whilst many have read there won’t be parties, I don’t think they’ve read this comment from Megg.

In a way yes, we will continuously be adding more adventures and community challenges as we build out the game more. For special occasions and events, there will be decorations added, but they won’t be full room takeovers of the island like we do now.

    -Megg

So these events which Megg has told us about are not that different from parties as we know them. However, there’s nothing stopping us from throwing our own parties. This is a video of Billybob, the former General Manager of Club Penguin, speaking. Many people always thought he was one of the best people and what he says kind of explains the team’s decision about parties.

Note: You must be viewing this post on a browser and not in an email to watch the embedded video

Six years ago, Billybob said how penguins like us are more creative with our parties. The fact is, in Club Penguin Island there are so many tools for us to create even bigger parties than we have now. The first thing that comes to mind are party supplies. There are SO many of them and we’ve already had a look at the party blaster.

In the future, there will also be igloos on Club Penguin Island and we’ll be able to decorate those. Think of how much fun our parties will be and how many players would have fun attending! In my opinion, that’s far better than Club Penguin throwing any types of parties but they are still working hard to try and give us “events”. Megg is extremely right.

Doesn’t mean we can’t start our own parties! That’s what I like best about CP Island… As we continue to build the game, there will be more and more available for our community to start their own themed parties 😀

    -Megg

One thing I do want to say before I conclude this post is that many people are really upset about there not being parties. I hope this post allows more people to realise that it is actually for the better but I think the team will still need to address the issue and explain their decision. This is what we’ve heard from them so far.

This way, we can focus our time on creating content that players can engage with every day so the app feels new and exciting each time you log in 🙂

    -Megg

I may agree on the team’s decision to get rid of parties as we know them but rarely does the community accept this response. We’ve heard so many times that it’s to focus their time on something else but quite frankly, no-one accepts that answer and they’re going to have to say more than just that.

    unnamed

To conclude, I think that Club Penguin Island is going to be awesome! There are so many tools for us to throw our own amazing parties whether it be party supplies and very soon there will also be igloos. Not only this, but the team themselves are also adding challenges which are one of the main things we want from a party. And despite all of this, there will also be some decorations plotted around the island. This also means the end of takeovers. What’s not to like?

Remember to check Club Penguin Mountains often for the latest Club Penguin Island news! I just really wanted to give my opinion on there not being parties because the vast majority of players are upset about this news when it is a good thing!

The Club Penguin Island Beta WAS NOT Randomised

In this post, I’m going to explain why the Club Penguin Island beta could not possibly have been randomised. In fact, (as of July 2013 – bare in mind we’re know in 2016, almost 2017) there’s less than a 0.0000055% chance of it not being random. Yes, I didn’t make that up. Let me explain.

Twitter has been a great source for finding out information about Club Penguin Island. At the top of my head, I can think of 11 people in the Twitter who got the beta email and the TestFlight email. Remember, this is just me trying to remember.

    1. Riyita
    2. Madzom8ie
    3. Bloxorz
    4. Penny2415
    5. Quester
    6. OrangeCP
    7. PocketPenguin
    8. Jess0426
    9. Nachoz Rules
    10. Chilly0ne
    11. Armandajedi

Alright, so as of July 2013, over 200 million accounts have been registered on Club Penguin. Spike Hike has said in the past that the vast majority of players are from the United States which, along with Canada, is where you have to be to be able to test the game, though others who aren’t from these countries got the game using other methods. I’m not going to deduct from 200 million because more accounts would have been created over the course of three years.

Only 2000 people got the chance to beta test in the closed beta. At least 11 of those are from our community…out of over 200 million. The chance of that happening is 0.0000055%, meaning that it’s EXTREMELY unlikely. However, if that’s not enough for you, let’s investigate a bit more into this matter. I want to make clear that I don’t think anyone should have their beta-testing powers removed but this is interesting.

It’s interesting to note that a few (nowhere near all) are in contact with Megg through direct messages on Twitter. Some have even interviewed her and others have received exclusives from her for their blog. I doubt that this is a coincidence…

Anyway, let’s look at this realistically. If the TestFlight email was sent out randomly, who’s saying that a bunch of bots received it? That might suggest that the beta interest email was random but again the chances of so many players in the community receiving it is just so low that it’s almost impossible to think that the beta selection was not random.

On the topic of fairness, some players have exploited the system to be able to test the game when they didn’t even receive the interest email and they don’t even live in Northern America. That’s really fair, isn’t it Disney? Yes, I’m still mad over the beta selection.

    Club Penguin Island Website Review

    website-review

After many years of waiting,we have had our biggest sneak peek yet. We now have the opportunity to pre-register for the game which will launch in 2017. Whether it be the poor design or critical bugs to Club Penguin Island, let’s review the website!

Let’s start with basic statistics. I doubt that I am the only one who has experienced very slow loading time for Club Penguin Island, which is very disappointing seeing how there isn’t even that much content on it. To prove this, I decided to use a website called ” GTmetrix” which gives me the speed results of the website. I compared it to the current one.

    comparing

This is actually really appalling. Club Penguin Island has a very limited amount of content but takes much longer to load than the current Club Penguin website. I’m hoping that this will change very soon though!

Let’s have a look at the design of the website. The first thing we see is a commercial which takes up all of the page. However, if we scroll down, we see…bits of the commercial as pages?

    home

I do believe that there is a reason they’ve done this, but that will be discussed in a future video. I just don’t like how they’ve chosen to feature parts of the advert with two sentences of text when you watch the video.

This is the website which new players will visit before choosing whether or not to download the app. If they literally only put a few seconds of work into what can be done on the island, that won’t make new players want to download the app. Here’s an example of the activities page.

There’s nothing better than getting out there and trying new things! Dive the deep waters, explore untamed terrain—even check out the pirate ship. Take on new challenges every day.

After three years of waiting, that’s the best they can come up with? Anyway, as I was saying, when you have the main commercial, why make six pages just sharing bits of the commercial without going into detail about it? The team has some really talented writers, and I really think this needs to be updated. If this is the best that Disney can do, I’m disappointed.

The page for parents looks amazing! It features points which are completely true about Club Penguin and I think that the team really did a great job at getting that through to parents of younger children. An interesting thing to note is that there’s no mention of charity or Coins for Change, which is something the team usually stresses that exists on our island.

It might be too early to call, but an end to Coins for Change and Global Citizenship altogether would be devastating. They’ve done so much to help people and animals in Haiti, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Kenya, India, and China.

    nameyourpenguin

Bugs. There is an extremely major one with the pre-registration system on Club Penguin Island. We were informed by the team that we would be able to keep our names, but turns out that a lot of penguins can’t. For some, when entering their correct password, the system thinks it is wrong. Others have their name already taken, even though it’s the same name that they currently own and some have their name appear with lots of numbers. Megg has addressed these bugs on the blog.

    bugs bug

The problem is that there is no method to change your username. I literally missed the button by less than a centimetre (not even exaggerating) and now I need to live with the consequences of having my name as “Torres126” rather than “Torres 126”. Hopefully the team will change them for us.

Despite Megg addressing it, players were really unhappy when it got announced, and many still are today.

Not being able to register for the new game is really concerning, and some popular penguins believe that their name has already been taken by an impersonator. This definitely needs to be fixed, however Megg said the team are working on it so flippers crossed!

The way I’m going to rate it is giving each thing I’ve talked about a score. The score will vary on how important I think it is.

+With the continuation of the Online Safety campaign, the website stresses information about safety to parents and kids alike in a creative way

    (9/10)

+An exciting advert appears on the page, but for me, sound doesn’t always play

    (6/8)

-An extremely buggy pre-registration system which has caused lots of frustration

    (3/9)

-Articles are just smaller sections of the advert with an not much detail and just a few sentences

    (1/5)

    -Poor load times

    (0/3)

    TOTAL: 19/35 – 54%

This is rather disappointing, but hopefully the team takes this feedback on board before Club Penguin Island goes live. Remember, this is simply a review of the website itself. I’ll have many more reviews up soon, including some on the adverts as well as a discussion on the beta-testing. I also hope to release an interview next week.

Who’s Beta Testing Club Penguin Island?

    beta-testing

By now, you’re almost certainly aware that very recently, Megg made a post giving us an official reveal about Project Super Secret. Although it’s officially launching in 2017, Megg mentioned beta testers in the post and that has got many people excited. But the question is, who’s really going to beta test our island, where and why? Here’s what we have been told.

Those of you wondering when you’ll get to check out the island, stay tuned to the blog! Some of you in Canada and the United States will be receiving an email invite to our closed beta. If you are one of the beta penguins who receives this email, feel free to report back and let us know what you think so far! -Megg

These three sentences speak a million words about something which we have been waiting for for many years. There’s quite a bit I’d like to say about them, but let’s start with the “receiving an email” bit. Megg confirmed that a beta would take place this month and many people were expecting this announcement to be the beta. Does this mean that any hopes of an open beta are off? That would be unfortunate, but it’s really looking that way, otherwise why would their be a “closed beta”?

    moderation_master_class

My next question is why Canada and the United States? This is just an idea, but I think it’s a likely one. What if it’s an event going to be held in the Club Penguin Headquarters and it will be similar to Moderation Master Class?

In 2013, Daffodaily5 announced a competition, where five lucky penguins got the opportunity to visit the Club Penguin HQ for a day. They took part in an online party, met the team and even discussed ideas for the game in a meeting. I’m thinking that something like this will happen again, but this time, the players will be able to play Club Penguin Island.

It seems like a much better option than sending it to people at the risk that it will be exposed online. The reason why this would mean that testers have to be from the US or Canada is because travel options would be much cheaper for the team.

So who would actually beta-test the game? In the email, Megg says that players will be “receiving an email invite”, which is interesting because no competition has been announced on the blog. Equally, if you randomise it from people in those two countries, you’ll have no idea if they’re active or not. This leads me to believe that the team will ask older players: bloggers and YouTubers, to help them beta test the island.

It makes sense to have a blogger with hundreds of thousands of views beta test the game and I reckon that will be the case. There was no mention of the word “lucky” or “luck”, which also seems to lead to the theory that content creators will get to try it first. Equally, bloggers could make views of it.

But just a quick conspiracy, how do we know they’re not lying to us? It seems a bit suspicious to send email invites and not announce the penguins on the blog. Actually I probably shouldn’t say that in-case they ever do something like this in the UK…

UPDATE: My friend Bloxorz received this email. You need to have an IOS device to take part and it seems like all emails have been sent. I will make another post on this with new information.

    Best of luck being selected!

    Can You Buy clubpenguinremix.com?

    clubpenguinremix

In June, a Club Penguin artist suggested by the name of Craig Voight suggested that Project Super Secret will be called “Club Penguin Remix”. Megg has also confirmed in episode 2 of Island Insider that there will be a new name, and it will contain “Club Penguin” in it. It is most likely that “clubpenguin.com” won’t be used, but instead the new game’s name will be used for a domain. The question is, can a player buy clubpenguinremix.com?

Why would you want to own this domain? Great question! Well, if this game is a huge success, many people will Google it. “clubpenguinremix.com” is likely to be one of the top results, and if someone was to redirect that to another blog, that blog is likely to get many views.

To find out this answer, we need to see if the domain has already been taken. Remember, just because a website doesn’t load, it doesn’t mean that the domain is free. So, I used a website to tell me.

    cpremix

At the moment, the domain is currently not available, but when will it be? To find this out, along with who currently owns the domain, we need to perform a whois search. The results show that the domain expires on January 25th 2017.

    january-25

Assuming that the domain is not set to automatically renew (which is unlikely as it would cost an ordinary penguin a fortune for a site which they’re not even using) then this means that on the 25th of January, the domain becomes anyone’s chance to buy. The interesting thing is the cost. Disney have two options, to either be waiting to pounce on the 25th, or to do some copyright stuff. However, how do we know that Disney don’t already own the domain? Let’s find out!

    disneydoesntown

You might not understand the image above, but what it is trying to show is that Disney does not own the domain. This makes it even more likely that the domain will not automatically renew. If it goes on sale for a cheap price, I suspect that many fan-bloggers will be looking into getting this domain provided that Project Super Secret is really called Club Penguin Re-mix. What this means is that on January 25, clubpenguinremix.com is likely to go on the market again.

Project Super Secret domains are going to definitely be first come, first serve. If you want a “clubpenguin” domain for a cheap price, the time has definitely gone. I’ve already taken a few free “clubpenguinremix” domains, and I’m definitely going to pounce on more free ones when the name is officially announced. Are you?
